Maintaining Health During Season Changes

Welcome to the wonderful season of Autumn!

Today I woke up to the sound of the very first acorn falling on our roof, we had a few trees taken down during the summer in order to put in a new septic system, and that was a sound I thought I'd never hear again, but just enough of a branch still hangs over our cabin. As the squirrels eat, they drop acorns and shells. It was a familiar and welcome sound, something I've heard in our home for the 24 years we have lived here. I awoke being reminded that fall was near, but little did I know that I was waking up to a new day and a new season until I peeked at the calendar.

I love fall, it is so beautiful seeing the trees that surround us and on the hillsides change color, and the cool, crisp air is delightful. However, it is also a season that is challenging for those who have weakened immune systems...this is true from now right through the holiday season. It is a time when all of us, and especially the elderly and those with compromised immune systems, must be extra vigilant in continuing our healthy diets, and supplements when necessary.

How to eat is simple, as naturally as possible, avoiding refined and processed foods, fruits and vegetables laden with pesticides, meats from animals raised on food with added antibiotics and growth hormones, meals that are high in fiber, we talk a lot about such things on this blog. It is sometimes hard to eat this way with our busy schedules, or if life circumstances make it difficult to find the time or the desire to cook healthy meals. These are times with supplements can be helpful.

Here are a few things I suggest, vitamin and herbal combinations whose ingredients work in synergy to help you through the season changes if cooking is a challenge, or your don't have a good source of whole foods:
